Thread: Fresh 5.3L build, really high idle.

  1. Default Fresh 5.3L build, really high idle.

So I have a completely forged bottom end 5.3L that’s been bored over to a 5.7L and has BTR Stage 4 cam in it. All the Learning does fine with the air/fuel ratio, but it wants to idle at 2500-2600 RPM and I can’t figure out why the timing says 36° when it high idles, and the IAC reads 40% like there both stuck or something. I was goin to mess around with the IAC control on my computer to see if I could fix it, but I was gonna see if anyone could give me some tips on how to fix it and why it’s doing that. I can bog it down with the clutch and it’ll go 1500 RPM, but no lower.

Is this a cable or electric throttle?
If cable, close the throttle blade some.
If electric subtract Pedal vs Throttle body position.
Post your tune and datalog. Everything without those is just guessing.
If it's cable throttle and your cable is too tight, it can hold the throttle open and not let the ECU go back into "Idle" Mode.

Yeah, it’s cable and it’s not tight enough to open the throttle body. I have the set screw turned out some. I’ll post a picture of the datalog when I get home.

@nathanforrester16@yahoo.com: The 40% is the default IAC Hold Position. First, do a TPS Autoset to make sure that TPS is at zero. If that doesn't solve it, close the throttle body, and do another TPS Autoset.

If I can be a service with this issue or tuning, please email me: projectgattago at gmail dot com. Andrew

You might have to slightly back-off the idle speed screw after a TPS Autoset so the TPS Position always returns to 0%. Also, a lot of vehicle applications don't like the IAC Hold Position (Idle ICF) too high.

Vacuum leak? It's getting air from somewhere, and I don't know if just the IAC could make it idle that high. Cheers.
