Thread: Sanity Check: AFR Issue & General Tune Review

Okay new wires, 8.65 Moroso Ultra 40, new NGK plugs #8. Engine started up and was very snappy. Driver's side still hitting 20 AFR; passenger was at 13.8. Took her out and the power was amazing. I did hear some exhaust backfire on deceleration. The engine was so impressive it would kit 7K like crazy. I was in 2nd gear and fish tailing into third and on up. Power was where I was three months ago.

Then I found it like a ton of bricks; upper drivers side intake manifold gasket over number #1 cylinder the one that fouled out. It's sucking so much air now when I take my foot off the gas pedal, it takes time to come down to idle.

I'll remove the manifold tomorrow and put another gasket this is the 2nd gasket; last one failed between #6 & #8 cylinder; this one now at the top of #1.

Hey, because the power came in past 7K do you think maybe my throttle body is limiting me? I have PART# 112-588 1000 CFM. On a 409, 11.2:1, 6 inch rods, AFR 225 heads.

Which intake manifold gaskets are these? If they're the proper gaskets, they shouldn't be failing.

Do you have a recommendation for part number 300-260?

No. Measure the intake ports and research the available intake gaskets.

Okay, I rebuilt the top of the engine. I used Fel-Pro 1206 S-3 which are thicker and steel reinforced. My machine shop recommended them as they hold up to abuse. I'll let you all know next race day.

    Port Size: 1.31" x 2.21"
    Thickness: 0.065"
    Port Shape: Rectangle
Material: Steel core laminate with coating & Printoseal.

And my WBO2 sensor issue is now GONE. I just started it, ran it for one min and the right side read 13.4 and the left side read 13.2 AFR. Last week when I pulled in, the car read 20 AFR on the left side.
