Thread: Dominator Timing Issue

    Default Dominator Timing Issue

Need help, engine is a 555ci BBC running a Holley Dual Sync with MSD 6AL. Holley is set for 15° of Cranking Timing, 30° of idle timing, shooting for 36° of total timing. That's where the engine made peak power on the engine dyno. Holley is set to 50° Reference Angle/50° BTDC on #1, Inductive Delay at 100 and distributor installed per Holley's instructions to a tee. Problem is no matter what you change it'll not get more than 33° of timing revved up, has 15° cranking, 30° at idle, but revved up it'll only get 33° total. No matter how much you raise the Inductive Delay it will not go past 33°. Pulling my hair out here.

Are you enabling "Static Timing Set" when doing the testing with the light? Andrew

Troubleshooting & synchronization verification information at the end of post #1.

Ensure there aren't any active 'timing modifiers' at this point (e.g. Timing vs Coolant Temperature, Timing vs Manifold Air Temperature, Knock Retard, etc.). Also, ensure you don't have any erroneously programmed "Warning Enabled Timing Offset" parameters in the "Sensor Scaling/Warnings" (System ICF) or in the custom Inputs (Inputs/Outputs ICF) or in the Advanced 1D/2D Tables (Advanced ICF). If you're not sure, use the EFI software "Enable Static Timing Set" (in the "Sync With ECU" icon, drop down menu - top Toolbar).
May God's grace bless you in the Lord Jesus Christ.

I tried it with the Static Timing Set turned on & turned off, and it made zero difference.

There are no active timing modifiers/no warnings in the timing offset/sensor scaling. Datalog shows just commanding 30° from idle to revved up. I tried the Inductive Delay at 100, 120, 125, small increases well past 300 with no increase in total timing. It gets 33-34° total timing revved up, that's it.

That's not possible, if you did it right.

@v8blazer03: You have some sort of malfunction somewhere. Hard to tell with your description what the problem is, but you should be able to set the timing to anything you want in the Base Timing Table. If your ignition system doesn't match the map then you have an electrical issue, most likely in the MSD box.
