    Default Magnetic Pickup passes Ohms test, but still bad?

    SBF, MSD 6AL, Blaster High Vibration Coil, MSD 8584 billet distributor. Ignition went away while driving on a warmed up vehicle. Checked for fuel at carb, good. Checked MSD box spark, excellent. Wife brought me my multi-meter. First checked voltage to MSD box (13.2 volts). Then checked primary and secondary resistance on the coil, both well within spec. Checked resistance of green/purple wires from box to distributor, both fine. Checked resistance of magnetic pickup, within spec (630 Ohms). Dayum, still stuck.

    Got the car flat-towed home and let it completely cool off. Still had a no-start condition on a cold car despite engine turning fine and even retested that I was getting a spark. On a hunch, and because I had a new spare on the shelf, decided to swap in a new magnetic pickup. Car fired right back up! So did I measure a false positive? Do these things just decide to go bad or experience any kind of intermittent failure? I need some confidence that this gremlin is behind me (not to mention that I now keep that spare in the car’s tool bag and not in a storage cabinet). Thanks for the inputs!

    The resistive loop could still measure at 630 Ohms, but was either leg checked for short to ground?

    Thank you for the reply, Gary. No, I did not check for that. Did not observe anything unusual with the pickup wiring, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t a break or abrasion somewhere. The entire two-wire harness from the MSD box to the pickup connection is sheathed in conduit as well.
