Thread: HyperSpark randomly cutting off.

The handheld was resetting/cutting off during cranking before I started using the +12V source I am now. Now it doesn't do that. I assume I'm using the default timing map build into the unit. I just followed the Holley video on installation.

If I have a tune or mechanical issue, how do I resolve it? I just don't understand because it didn't do this with the HEI.

I just realized something. I installed a progressive linkage at the same time I installed the HyperSpark. I just read the progressive linkage isn't compatible with version 1.1.33 of the handheld software, which is what I have. Could this be my problem? If so, how to solve the software issue? I enabled the TBI linkage, and put the appropriate TPS % in the handheld.

Remove the progressive linkage (& EFI software programming) and see.

Ebrowntaylor, go to Holley's website and get the latest updates for the firmware. They have videos on how to do this.

For a quick test you could undo the progressive linkage and try it. You'll need to obviously set the tune back to appropriate settings.

I suspect you have a wiring issue (poor ground) somewhere. If the handheld is losing connection during cranking or at anytime it usually indicates either a wiring issue or EMI.

Zip up your current GCF and a datalog of the issue and we'll take a look.

The progressive linkage was my issue! At the least the issue main issue I started this post about. I guess something about the progressive linkage and software version 1.1.33 (which is the latest) doesn't jive without additional adjustments. Thanks very much for the help, fellas. I reverted back to the linkage that came with the Sniper, and it worked just fine.

Danny, in the link you sent it states version 1.1.32 was the last Holley allowed users to enable the progressive linkage with the handheld. I will hold off on re-installing it for now.

The handheld was losing power while cranking last week when I first installed the system. I found a better 12V source, and eliminated that problem. No issues there.

Now that I have HyperSpark controlling my timing, is adjusting the curve done on the handheld? I have a camshaft that likes a decent amount of idle timing. I was using 20° @idle and 35° WOT with my HEI. I set the hyperspark to give me 35° WOT, and it looks as if it defaults to 15° of idle timing. The balancer is reading correct, BTW.

What's the best way to give you a datalog? I did one for Holley two weeks ago, but it seemed to take forever. Maybe I didn't do it right. Do l just interrupt it after a few minutes and save? Thanks again guys! It turns out this was all my doing. LOL.

In that forum thread maybe, but not what I stated in any of my posts.

Turns out it was wring. I took the car around the block earlier thinking everything was OK, and then it started doing the same thing again.

Cutting off randomly like before. When you give it gas past 3000 RPM, it starts revving really high out of nowhere and the IAC starts drawing tons of air to compensate before it almost dies.

If I send a datalog, would anyone be willing to take a look?

The above post should say, "Turns out I was wrong." LOL, sorry.

I can't seem to get this datalog to attach here. Could I email it to someone?

Do a download from ECU to the SD card. Save it as a name you will recognize. Upload it to your PC then save it in a zip file. Then follow the instructions on this forum to attach it to the thread. Attach the GCF and datalogs.

I will do it from work today. Thank you for your help!

OK, I must have done something wrong because when I try to upload it says my file is invalid. I'll try from a different computer later today.
