Which build version of V5 do you have?

I agree, you shouldn't have any problems.

I've been having this problem on & off with V5. There have been releases to improve the issue, but it still happens from time to time.

My HP laptop used to freeze on a regular basis. I finally got rid of it and replaced with a refurbished Dell laptop that I got from Dell for $395. The Dell is much faster than the HP and never freezes. Both laptops were running the same version of Windows 10. Both had the same version of V5. Both used the same exact USB cable. I don't know what the issue was with the HP, but I'm guessing it was something flaky with the USB driver.

Dell was the worst laptop I've ever used at work (it wasn't mine). I/we now only use Panasonic Toughbook laptops. I own two at home (in the house & garage). I think a lot of people would be amazed at how well the Holley EFI software performs on a high quality laptop. I used to have a cheap laptop just for the Holley EFI software & garage use (other automotive programs), and I experienced a lot of software/computer issues. I learned my lesson. Again, Panasonic Toughbook laptops; there's a reason why they're endorsed by many commercial industries.

I’m having the same issue. I even update everything to V5 Build 170. Only way it works fine is if I plug the USB cable into the 3.0 USB port in the laptop. I’m trying to fine another laptop to try.

The USB driver used to be flaky, but that was one of the things addressed in the V5 Build 140. These types of problems are impossible to solve unless you have a million bucks worth of electronic gear at your disposal. I used to work at Xerox and the FW guys there could figure anything out if you gave them time by hooking up racks of gear and probing every circuit. Eventually they'd figure out that someone screwed up the program or the chip layout or wired the board wrong or installed the wrong cap or something like that. They always found the problem, but sometimes it took a lot of hours. For us guys working out in our garage, it's just a black box and you'll never know why it doesn't work.
