Thread: Updating Software/Firmware

    Default Updating Software/Firmware

I hate to beat a dead horse, but I've read till my eyes fell out, and tried till my fingers fell off clicking. I'm not a newbie to computers. I'm 48 and have been around computers since DOS 6.1/Win 3.1. I can not get an update to work. I install V2 with V2 EFI software, and nothing. V3 same thing! No sense in trying V4 because it will do the same thing. Go back to factory version preinstalled, and ECU connects fine with no issues. It seems like a USB connection issue since the first version has a hold on it. I just don't want to uninstall the first version until I know for sure I can connect with later versions. Last thing I want to do is brick the device, and have no way back. At this time I can always just install the first version and communicate.

I'm using a laptop to do this process. Should I use the 3.5" handheld and just download the SD contents? The laptop should be the way to go. If I do the handheld and then fight with the laptop, I won't be able to go back on the handheld. I want the latest EFI software because it's the latest, but I also have people willing to help me with tuning, but they can't open it up! Any help is appreciated.

If you're on V1 EFI software/ECU firmware, contact Holley Tech Service (LINK).

I tried this route also when I tried to use the USB cable. It wanted me to update firmware. Regular Holley EFI will flash to the Terminator, but not work correctly. I was only able to get the firmware specifically for Terminator to work. The latest updates are on Holley's download page under the Terminator section. DON'T try to use V3, V4, V5, as these are not for Terminator. Support will tell you the same thing.

You mean the Terminator X EFI, which is not the same EFI system as the regular Terminator EFI.

Yes, it is (regular Terminator, HP & Dominator EFI). It's just not for the Terminator X EFI system.

The "V" software versions are not for the Terminator X. After two days of pulling my hair out trying to get mine to update, I recommend downloading the "Terminator X SD Card Contents" File from the website and exchanging the files found on the handheld SD Card. This done by putting the handheld SD card into your laptop an exchanging the .FWU file and .EEP file found on the SD card for those found in the Zip Folder downloaded from the Holley website. You can then pop the SD card back into the handheld and update through the handheld. Seems to be much more stable in my experience.
