Thread: HP EFI Questions

    Default HP EFI Questions

Hello all. I want to use the Holley HP EFI on a 363 stroker Small Block Ford engine I’m building. The engine will be naturally aspirated and be high RPM and high compression (7500 RPM/14.5:1 Compression)

The engine is going in a 1991 Ford Mustang that came with an EEC4 A9L processor. I’d like to buy a kit with the harness I need to install it. I’m assuming that the original engine harness from the EEC4 will go away in its entirety. Is that correct?

I want to use CNP, a crank trigger and DIS. I have a Trick Flow 4150 EFI manifold with direct port injection bungs and fuel rails and a Holley 4150 1000 CFM throttle body. I have Ford injectors I’d like to use if possible.

    My questions are as follows:
    1) What harness do I need to connect to the Holley throttle body with the three sensors on it to the processor?
    2) What coil packs and harness is the best for a CNP setup and what harness do I need for that?
    3) I see a couple different controller/harness kits and I don’t know which one to buy for my application. I’d like to keep my other dash wiring and lights/power windows, etc.
    4) What cam synchronizer and harness do I need to work with the HP EFI?
    5) I’m going to buy the Innovators West dampener with the crank trigger option. What Holley crank trigger and harness will mate to their trigger mounting bracket?
    6) Is the Holley fuel injector harness compatible with Ford injectors?

I should also mention that the engine will be dry sump, and as such, will not need to drive an internal oil pump with the cam sync hardware.
Thanks in advance for the help. I plan on buying as much Holley hardware as I can. Rob

If using Holley's 556-112 CNP coils, the Holley 558-318 CNP coil sub-harness is also required (or the Holley 556-128 CNP Big Wire V8 Kit).
For LSx coils, Holley 558-307 CNP main harness plugs into two GM 12579355 CNP sub-harnesses or Holley 558-321 LSx coil sub-harnesses.
If you had a Holley EFI LSx main harness, you wouldn't need the Holley 558-307 CNP main harness or the 558-318 CNP coil sub-harness.

With the Dominator EFI, everything is sold separately. Use Summit Racing's shopping cart for a total price.
The HP ECU only has four Inputs & four Outputs. If you need more than that, you'll need the Dominator ECU:

No, it doesn't have to be removed: https://forums.holley.com/showthread...464#post100464 (Related Fox Mustang/Holley EFI Forum Post)

I have Ford injectors I’d like to use if possible.
Yes, if you have their Injector Off Time data (LINK).

    1) What harness do I need to connect to the Holley throttle body with the three sensors on it to the processor?
Holley HP EFI ECU & Harness Kit (LINK).

    2) What coil packs and harness is the best for a CNP setup and what harness do I need for that?

Decide if you want the Holley HP EFI ECU & Harness Kit (LINK), or the Holley EFI 558-118 Ford Universal MPFI Coil-Near-Plug Main Harness.
The Holley EFI 558-118 Universal MPFI/CNP Main Harness is wired just like the Holley 558-104 Universal Main Harness (LINK - Section 13 Wiring Appendix) and the Holley 558-307 Universal CNP Harness (LINK).

    5) I’m going to buy the Innovators West dampener with the crank trigger option. What Holley crank trigger and harness will mate to their trigger mounting bracket?
You can run an MSD style crank trigger kit with Holley's 554-118 Hall-Effect crank sensor.
Holley's 554-118 direct replacement Hall-Effect crank sensor (¾"-16 threaded sensor):
    http://documents.holley.com/199r10633rev.pdf (Holley 554-118 Instructions)
Or you can run the Holley EFI 36-1 crank trigger kit (Hall-Effect sensor) for small block Fords:
https://www.holley.com/products/igni.../parts/556-115 (Holley EFI SBF 36-1 Crank Trigger Kit)
http://documents.holley.com/199r10923.pdf (Holley 556-115 36-1 Crank Trigger Kit Instructions)

    6) Is the Holley fuel injector harness compatible with Ford injectors?
Yes, Holley has fuel injector harnesses for either EV1/EV6 connector type. (LINK - Select "Injector" Harness Type at left pane.)

I plan on buying as much Holley hardware as I can.
