No spark at points with new coil & ballast resistor.
Hi. I'm wondering if anyone can help here. I've just replaced my coil with a Blaster II PN8202 and a 8214 ballast resistor in series with the primary, it has stock points (Mustang 200 ci inline 6). I've bypassed the old stock pink resistor wire that comes out the pigtail on the ignition. On the first start, it fired up for a second and then died and I haven't been able to get a spark at the points since. With the ignition on the ballast resistor it was cooking, so just to check I by passed the resistor block and had a spark at the points. Does this mean the brand new resistor fried on the first turn? Thanks.

Where's the condenser, no mention in your description? Do you have a test lamp or multimeter? Gary

Yes, I bought a new condenser too and I have a good Fluke meter. I get continuity at the resistor terminal and it measures about 0.7 Ohms, so to me it's OK still (factory specs 0.8 Ohms).

Your resistor is OK. Does it get hot when you turn the key on? What volts do you measure at the coil negative, and at the points terminal wire, while the points are open, and then closed? Gary
