    Default Digital E-Curve (8394) with Blaster 2.

    Hi. Can someone explain to me what the timing curves in the installation instructions for the E-Curve (Fig 3) actually do? How do I read them?
    I know how to set a curve using Fig 4, but what are the curves actually going to do timing wise to my ignition system start to run?
    I assume I would want a 25° advance to get 36° total (10-12° initial), but why does that curve start at 0° where as all of the other ones start at a different degree.

    Also, a phone tech support told me to set my engine to 36° BTDC, drop in the e curve locked out, verify timing at 36°, then set curve.
    What is the front of the distributor or does it matter as long as I don't turn it?
    Do I need to add for vacuum as well prior to dropping it in?
    And, again, what do the curves actually do once set? Confused. Thanks, FW

    The reason for setting timing at the locked out value is to verify the max timing first. Once a curve is selected, the "advance" curve is calculated by the module, the "locked" timing is the trigger the module, the module delays the timing by the appropriate amount. All timing is a retard, timing removed after the trigger point. The 25 curves start at zero only as an example of the maximum amount of timing removal. They all "end" at 25 on the curve examples.     Thanks Gary. So where the curve "starts", that's going to be my initial timing then correct? And should my max timing include the amount of vacuum advance that I would want? If that's the case then I'd need to be somewhere around, say, 48° max locked out?

    Correct, and correct. But get the engine running with just mechanical advance first, at say 36°. The engine probably won't start at 48° BTDC.
    Once you have it running, you can then introduce the extra advance via the switches, and then readjust your initial with a timing light. Gary

    So time it locked out at 36° then turn the distributor 12° more at idle to set the target point?

    Yes, you can do that after the engine has started. Then set your switches for both mechanical & vacuum advance. Then check your timing at idle, and at 2500 RPM with and without the vacuum connected. Gary
