    Default Datalog

    I have a friend that has a 4 injector Sniper system. He cannot get it to record a Datalog. What could cause the 3.5" TSLCD not to allow a Datalog to record? He has the SD card installed.

    Potentially you friend is running the older firmware that first supported the Super Sniper. FW_01_01_0070.fwu.
    Firmware versions prior to FW_01_01_0150.fwu needed to be manually stopped prior to power off to perform a save action.
    Firmware FW_01_01_0150.fwu and newer perform datalog saves on power off.
    First recommendation would be to update the Sniper & 3.5" firmware to the latest.

    Perform a test with the USB dongle. Can he capture datalogs into the PC?
    This would confirm Sniper is working correctly and a potential problem exists with his screen.
    Verify that your own 3.5" touchscreen is saving datalogs.
    Label your screen - Electrical tape, etc.
    Then try your screen on your friends Sniper. Does your working screen save datalogs as expected when connected to your friends Sniper?
    Does your friends screen work correctly when connected to your Sniper?
    Then cross check the SD card content. Possibly the directory structure is incorrect causing the datalog save function to fail.
    You could take this one step further and test the suspect screen with your working SD card to see if it will save correctly.
    Has the SD cards read only switch been activated preventing data from being written to it?

    Your trying to identify if the problem is Sniper specific or 3.5" TSLCD specific and having access to a second working setup will help.
    Make sure you take your working/labeled screen home with you.

    I can’t do the screen swap, he lives 300 miles away. But mine does work. He doesn’t have the dongle as of yet.

    I estimate that I'm ~15,000 km away so can't help that much from my side of the laptop screen. Make sure the SD Card is not in the 'LOCK' position. It will prevent data from being written to it. Hopefully it's the little switch on the side of the SD card that might have been bumped when inserting into the 3.5" TSLCD. Try plugging the SD card into a PC and creating a text file on it to confirm it can be written to. (Add text, save, close file, remove SD, insert SD, open file and confirm the text was saved.)
    Try purchasing a new SD card (cheap) and installing the current SD card content to it. Make sure they performed both 3.5" TSLCD firmware update and the Sniper firmware update. There are some compatibility issues if one was updated and the other was left as an older firmware version. Maybe only one was update.
    Try talking your friend through the menu options to perform a datalog in case they are performing the steps incorrectly. If purchased from a local performance shop, possibly your friend can drop into their place of purchase ask them to have a quick look and perform a test with a second 3.5" TSLCD. Outside of that they may need to raise a Holley tech support ticket to investigate further. Hopefully its the SD card lock switch.
