    Default Starter Access/Replacement?

Hello. I have an RM6023 QT bellhousing for my BBC and was wondering how you would verify correct starter/flywheel tooth engagement, since there's no access through the bellhousing with the starter installed. Thanks for any replies.

Pull the transmission out. Leave the heavy 12V off the starter, insulated.
First check pinion to back of ring gear for .100" clearance at 90° intervals around the ring gear, which also proves the ring gear is true.
Energize the starter to engage the pinion, check the pinion to ring gear backlash is .010" to .030". Gary
    Regards, Gary
