Thread: Terminator EFI, handheld screen, black screen of death.

Default Terminator EFI, handheld screen, black screen of death.

Hello all. I've had a few running problems with the Terminator system, but this new one is the biggest issue that there doesn't seem to be a work around.

I've been dealing with the poor running and worked with the Holley techs on the majority of it. We've replaced the cam in the car a few different times as per Holley Diag, was given a new throttle body and WBO2 sensor with no change. Holley finally send us a loaner ECU after sending Holley a few datalogs. Existing handheld, existing SD card. And loaner ECU all work flawlessly!!!! Yay!!! Holley sends the ECU back and it has been a black hole since.

Original ECU back in the car, handheld won't communicate properly. Handheld shows the normal screen, but says "Not compatible, requires firmware update".
Holley says we need to wipe the SD card, download new program on the phone with Holley as we datalog to make sure I don't screw up, black screen of death. handheld does nothing, no function at all, not the normal screen. It says "Connected ECU version not supported by this device, FW upgrade is required".

Holley sends a 2nd tune, same issue. Holley sends and completely new "known good" SD card. walk through the steps from Holley to load the new card. Handheld instructs us to remove card and reboot system, handheld LOCKS UP AND SAME BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH. The ECU, handheld, and SD card and currently en-route to Holley for assessment and reprogramming.

Really hoping to hear Danny's ideas on the situation. With the loaner ECU the car ran beautifully, can't wait to have this car finished and turn the keys over to the owner. Here's a pic of the death screen, reminds me of the old Microsoft blue screen of death when your desk top computer dies. I also have the version ##s for the software and various info if needed.

Thank you for taking the time to punctuate & capitalize the names & abbreviations in my post. Any thoughts to my issues? I'm really hoping that it's my ineptitude and not the Holley system that's the issue.

The EFI (laptop) software, ECU firmware & touchscreen unit must all be version compatible (LINK). If this is the case, then I'd reflash the firmware on both devices (SD card contents too), because the firmware may be corrupted in one or the other.

That's what I was afraid of. I've also seen a few posts about Windows XP being an issue with downloading/interfacing with the Holley systems, that's the system on this computer. The posts that I read were not Terminators though.

Depending of the EFI software/ECU firmware version (see below), I wouldn't use Windows XP. Holley has progressed away from that platform.

EFI Software & ECU Firmware Versions:
EFI SOFTWARE: click "Help" tab (top toolbar) & "About Holley EFI".
ECU FIRMWARE: click "Sync With ECU" & "Get ECU Info" (Key-on/USB connected).
The latest EFI software & ECU firmware can be downloaded here:
    https://www.holley.com/support/resou...Fuel_Injection (Holley EFI Technical Library)
http://documents.holley.com/techlibr...rmwarerev1.pdf (How To Update ECU Firmware)
Before updating firmware, ensure the current Global File is saved somewhere, since it will be erased from the ECU.
May God's grace bless you in the Lord Jesus Christ.
