Thread: Distributor shaft size?

    Default Distributor shaft size?

A while ago I bought an MSD 8456 Pro Billet TFI distributor for my 5.0L Dart based Ford. It didn't fit as the shaft was too big, .531". With little to no info on MSD website, I bought a TFI Street Fire distributor which had the correct shaft size of .467". There are multiple TFI billet Ford distributors on the website, do any of them have the small shaft or are they all big?

I don't like this lack of information either. Contact MSD Tech Service (LINK).
Confirm with MSD that this distributor gear is in fact steel. It states "STEEL"
at the top, but the description states "Proprietary Formulated Ductile Iron".

I was hoping someone here had an answer. I'm not after info on the gear. I wanna know which FORD PRO BILLET TFI distributor comes with the small diameter shaft .467", as I can only find the Street Fire version.

What's the significance of the shaft diameter difference, .467" to .531", since the shaft OD does not touch anything else, only the hex drives the oil pump? The Street Fire is a cast distributor of OEM construction. The 8456, etc., is a billet machined assembly, so new shaft assembly etc. Where does the .531" not fit into? Gary

I was thinking the same thing; maybe he wants to reuse his distributor gear.
