Thread: Electrical noise from an inverter (public announcement).

Default Electrical noise from an inverter (public announcement).

As a public announcement: I tried using a 12VDC to 115VAC inverter to maintain my laptop battery and it would cause the EFI to shutdown while driving and come right back intermittently. I wired a second battery I had on hand to a 12VDC socket - inverter - computer and all is well. I might look into an additional DC filter for the Sniper feed wire just in case some phone charger or something else doesn't interfere with this as well.

Yes, I would imagine the cheap(ish) inverters available nowadays are maybe not at the epitome of their design, with crude block wave conversion and minimal components. Although it provides flexibility I find a dedicated DC-DC adapter works better with much less heat generated, especially when you can step over to the USB-C standard. I'd think DC-DC would have much less EMI, but I could be wrong. Thanks for sharing your experience, good to know.

I run an inverter regularly, a Harbor Freight inverter and I've experienced no issues.
