Thread: Paddle Shifting 4L60E

  1. Default Paddle Shifting 4L60E

Apparently the EFI software can enable it, but what's needed on the hardware end to paddle shift a 4L60E?

Paddle Shift Enable creates the three necessary inputs for operation ("Trans Auto/Manual" - on/off switch, "Manual Upshift" & "Manual Downshift" - momentary switches). Read below for their operation. Enter the Pin Map "View Inputs" screen and assign the pins.

    EFI Software Help Information/Instructions:
‒ On the top Toolbar, click "Help" & "Contents". This opens all Help topics.
‒ When navigating the software, click "Help ?", drag it to any parameter and click again.
..This automatically opens the definitions for that specific parameter.
‒ Tuning information can be read by clicking the F1 key, when you're viewing any screen.

I get that it can be done and the software will allow it, I'm curious to see what ways it's been done using what components. I was surprised to not see anything.

I added paddle shifters to my '59 Corvette, really more like button shifters. I looked at a lot of commercial units, but most required a unit that attached between the steering wheel & hub, which would move the wheel too far to the rear for my setup. There were also radio controlled units, which I felt added another bit of complexity which I did not want. Since the spokes on the steering wheel on the '59 already holes, my solution was to add two large push buttons in two of the holes (green arrows in the first picture below). I also added a "Switch Shift" button to my center console. The buttons are attached to the Dominator through a coiled wire, like a desk telephone handset cable.

I like it too. I've purchased these high quality custom billet pushbutton switches for other uses: https://billetautomotivebuttons.com/# (Billet Automotive Buttons)
