Thread: Terminator X Power Tap

    Default Terminator X Power Tap

I did a little searching, but couldn't find a definite answer. My question is can the +5V terminal on the power tap that's part of the main harness be used to power the LSx truck alternator?

The +5V Power Tap is for wiring additional sensors (no amperage draw).

Oh okay. I just figured since the alternator uses a 5V reference for the exciter, that it would work.

I'm not knowledgeable about the 5V control wire on those ECU controlled alternators. I'd like to hear from others about this. Most Holley EFI users install conventional alternators.

I was under the impression that on an ECU controlled alternator, the ECU turns the alternator on, but also monitors voltage output and controls the output of the alternator. This is something the Holley ECU is not capable of doing. Like Danny said, most use conventional alternators. They are easy to connect.

Part number HLY-197-400 is used to convert a 12 volt signal to a 5V. The factory alternator uses a 5V reference for it to charge correctly.
