Thread: Sniper AFR 12.8 Rich?

    Default Sniper AFR 12.8 Rich?

Just started up Sniper on my 400 SBC. Followed the process per the manual. All went well except idle seems rich. Smells rich and plugs are black & sooty. Target AFR from Wizard is 12.8. Handheld shows AFR bouncing around the target. So the system seems to be doing what it's supposed to be doing. Question is: Does it make sense that a reading of 12.8 should coincide with the rich condition that I see? Feels like I need to increase the AFR, which I can do, but why would the Wizard setup a rich idle like that?

The base tune is pretty rich. If the engine is still coming up to temp there are a lot of enrichments adding fuel as well. Be patient, the system will Learn. When I first ran mine, it was way rich smelling. It's getting better & better every time out.

It does not appear to correct any of the added enrichments on its own.

The EFI system doesn't self-tune the Acceleration Enrichment.

Remember, the only thing this EFI system self-tunes, is the Base Fuel Table, via the Learn Table.
You're responsible for everything else, especially the Target A/F Ratio Table & the Base Timing Table.
A dynamometer is the only real way to determine the optimum ignition timing for your performance engine.
Most people research it, or just "know" what their engine needs or likes. Especially if it's a popular engine.
