Thread: Tachometer Hook Up

  1. #1

    Default Tachometer Hook Up

The directions don't specify if the stock tachometer, can remain hooked up to the HEI distributor tach output along with the yellow Sniper wire. Probably a lame question, but I don't want to short anything out. My Sniper is up & running, so far pretty great with about 50 miles of Learn time. I'd just like the stock tach to be operational again, as I keep the handheld in the center console hidden.

No. Keep your yellow wire hooked up to your HEI tach output, then connect your tach to the dark brown wire from the Sniper wiring harness, like it shows on the bottom of page 13 in the reference manual.

Yes, the dark brown wire is the Tach Output: http://documents.holley.com/199r11031r.pdf (Holley Sniper EFI Instruction Manual - "ECU Wiring Overview", Page 16 & "10 Pin Connector", Page 17)

I did connect the brown wire to the tach wire when I installed, but tach never/doesn't operate. I verified the tach does operate with carb & tach hooked to the tach output on HEI distributor.

Yes, since your factory OEM tachometer only operates off the HEI distributor's tach output.

You'll be fine. The yellow wire goes to the coil, and hook the tach up just like you would with a carb & HEI to the tach terminal on the HEI. Just be careful where you install your pink wire. This wire needs a clean source.

Also, ensure the Sniper EFI switched +12V pink wire is powered in the "Run" and "Crank" key positions.
