    Default Smartwire Power Connections

    I am not sure that an answer on the below subject is possible due to legal reasons. However, I shall ask none the less.

    I am struggling to find a justifiable answer, other than a simple disclaimer, as to why the Smartwire manual specifically states;

    If the manufacturer recommends the main power be connected to the main direct battery power,
    follow the manufacturer’s requirement and DO NOT connect items through the SmartWire.

    Since these items invariably include a switching relay as part of the wiring harness, they almost always state this requirement by design.

    Since the Smartwire will largely ignore in-rush currents above the 10 or 20amp rated supply channels for a given time frame, it seems a little backward to have to resort to having a physical fuse and/or relay when using an expensive PDM module that is designed to eliminate these elements from the system. Particularly if the current demands for the equipment remain within the manageable limits of the Smartwire outputs.

    Additionally, this is not something that appears to be found within the literature of other PDM manufacturers such as Motec or Syvecs.
