Thread: MSD 6A wiring question

    Default MSD 6A wiring question

I bought a car and it has a sbf with a MSD6A box, MSD coil and Ford distributor. I was cleaning up the wiring and noticed I pulled a wire off the negative side of the coil. I went to the MSD site and printed off the wiring diagram and it only shows the Orange (coil +) and black (coil -) wired to the coil. The wire that pulled off was grounded and went to the negative side of the coil. I tried to start the car without it and it wouldn't start.

Any ideas why the previous owner grounded the neg side of the coil?

    Thanks in advance,

    Dogman.....

Where is the black wire from the 6A connected to?
The coil is grounded by the black wire, so another separate ground could still work.
