Mallory magnetic module

Just installed new magnetic module. With old was reading 1.8V at -coil and 8.4V at +. With new reading 12V at both??? Battery voltage is 12.2V. There is no V drop across ballast resistor. Out of circuit ballast is 1.6 ohms. I have noticed 2 different wiring configurations for this coil with vacuum advance, one with red from distributor going to + coil and other with red going to ignition side of ballast resistor??? Any ideas anyone?

The red wire being wired to either the coil + or the hot side of the resistor is ok, the main thing is the coil negative we want to make sure it has 6 to 9 volts when running. Which module do you have?

It's the 609, magnetic. Just put it in after engine fire toasted it, distributor cap, rotor and most of plug wires with all replaced. It won't start.
