Thread: Harley coil

    Default Harley coil

    Hope this does not sound too dumb...i'm new to Harley's but, factory coil is not marked ( + ) or ( - ) how do you determine which is which ? Thanks in advance......

    unhook both wires from the coil..:huh: ..( be careful not to ground any of the wires):blink:
    then turn the key on....touch the leads with a test light or volt meter to see which one has voltage ....:001_cool: now.. the wire that lights up .......is coil positive .:thumbup:

    Sorry you may have misunderstood....i know which wires are which coming from harness....problem is coil has no marking which show ( + ) or ( - )
    I saw on another forum that as long as i put the hot from ignition and points wire on same post which would be positive and ground the other side i would be ok but, that does not sound right to me ? does not make sense factory coil has no markings ? at least to me anyway....
