    Cool

For race-only engines I recommend locked out timing.

    atco1320,

The main limitation to locking out the timing is the engine starting. If it starts hard with the timing locked out you would need to use a start retard of some sort depending on the application and type of ignition you are using. Other then that there is not a problem locking it out.

    Thanks,

    Default Locked Out Ign'

Sorry For Not Responding Sooner(life) But Thanks For The Advise. As In My Reply To Eric(see Reply Post) A Couple Of Concerns Were Top End Rpm/ On The Bottle And Starting Line Rpm /offthe Bottle;as Well As Burn -out Rpm. As I Stated To Eric ,i'm Running A Mild/slow Bracket Set-up With A Cam That Has An Operating Range Of 2200-6200;msd 6al;3500 Stall;2500 Line Chip;6300 End Chip With A Start Retard Box (nitrous Not Being Used Yet Due To Lack Of Saftey Devices Not Being Installed Yet(rpm Window Box,fuel Pressure Shut -off Etc.). However ;ive Manually Retarded Timing 8 Degrees When Testing The Nitrous System And I Just Need To Tie Every Thing Together For The Sake Of Consistency And Engine Life. (starting To Forget My 'keep It Simple" Rule).

    atco1320,

The places you are concerned with, even with mechanical advance you are already at total timing so if it is locked out or not would not make a difference. The mechanical advance would normally be in by 2000-2500 anyway. Retarding the timing for nitrous top end etc., would be the same regardless if you had the timing locked out or not.

    Thanks,
