2. I really think there's a lot of heat getting to the carb as the kickdown stud got hot enough to melt the clip off the kickdown cable. They don't sell the clip by itself, so I'm forced to buy the whole cable (not too bad $20). However, I don't want to have the same heat problem kill a new clip too.
Yes, a one inch phenolic spacer will definitely help but it may not eliminate the vapor lock problem.
You should find ways to reduce under-hood heat or help it escape more effectively. (engine tune, electric fan, hood vents, etc.)
3. My red electric fuel pump is incredibly loud. I used the rubberized mounting, but its still much louder than my engine at idle. Can anything be done?

Electric fuel pumps will be louder when they're cavitating from overheated fuel, a suction/pickup problem or a voltage problem. Also ensure your fuel tank is properly vented (LINK).
