    Default 553-108 Touchscreen Wiring Question

    As I finally get ready to fire my HP EFI install up, I've ordered the 553-108 in order to monitor and allow adjustments. In my search for information regarding this, I came across this YouTube video and wonder if this guy is onto something. He had been using the tiny handheld and decided to upgrade because of the software upgrade. He connected the CAN Bus connector to the 3.5" touchscreen and took a gamble that he would not need to have the power leads connected to anything. Turns out this did work, if you go to the 5:10 minute mark, you'll see where he discusses this, and at 6:10 he reveals the results.

    That said, what are or could be the downsides of doing this install as he has?

    The Terminator came with prewired CAN Bus connections (came direct from the ECU, Pin B20 is power & B14 is ground), thus negating the need for the 2-wire adapter. You just plug the extension cable into the CAN Bus leads and then to the display. On the latest HP EFI systems I've wired, it comes with just the 2-wire (org/org-blk) connection and you will need to supply power & ground for the gauge to work. I end up making my own four pin ends with the Molex connector to have a custom plug just like the Terminator. You will have to supply power & ground along, but it can come from an ignition source & chassis ground. This is a much cleaner looking harness, IMO.

    I would wire it as the TSLCD instructions state.
