Thread: Can't sync laptop to ECU.

  1. #1

Default Can't sync laptop to ECU.

While on the road, I can't seem to sync my laptop to the ECU. Each time I try, all the areas go green except System. I can "Download From ECU" to the Laptop, but when I click the "Sync To ECU" button on the menu bar, it fails (red light). The engine never skips a beat, but I want to watch the action on the Base Fuel & Timing Tables. Is their something I'm missing?

In the "Choose Opening Option" window, "Open" your Global File under "Click Here To Open Selected File". Then click "USB Link" to go "Online" with the ECU. Select "Get From ECU" in the ECU Sync window. This is the current state of tune in the ECU. If the "System" icon fails, it means there's a difference between what's in the ECU & your laptop (EFI software). Since the engine is running fine, I'd choose "Get From ECU".

"Get From ECU" & "Send To ECU" - ECU Sync window:
When you connect a laptop and go "Online" with the ECU, you first want to click "Get From ECU". This updates your laptop with the latest ECU "state of tune". If you click "Send To ECU", you overwrite all the Learning the ECU has performed since the last time that laptop was connected (because you're not sending the latest, up to date values to the ECU). The only time you should click "Send To ECU", is if you're just sending a Global Folder change to the ECU and you haven't driven the vehicle since the last time the laptop was connected.
May God's grace bless you in the Lord Jesus Christ.

I've followed your instruction (multiple times), but I still can't get the USB Link to go "Online". All the icons go green except the System icon. And after each failed attempt, I click the "Get From ECU" button and try again. Same results. I've even tried going Online with the engine not running thinking this would put the System in a steady state, but still the System won't sync. Other that that, everything appears to be working fine. The system is Learning and I'm able to download (and save) Global Files. Any idea where to look?

Update & good news. I've been too busy to contact the Holley Tech Service, but I decided to do a little tuning anyway. By a little tuning, I mean pulled the settings from the ECU, saved it to a Global File (“Baseline”), transferred Learn Table to Base Fuel and reduced the settings in Fuel Modifiers (Coolant Temp Enrichment Table & A/F Ratio Offset Table).

After I renamed and saved the modified Global File, I pushed it to the ECU. To my amazement, after it finished syncing the new settings, it automatically popped into Online mode. ??!!?? To see if it was just a fluke, I shut down both the ECU and the laptop, restarted them and then clicked the USB Link and it, again, popped right into the Online mode. Sweet! I'm not sure why the “push” cleared it up, but my “Sync” problem seems to be gone.
