Thread: Sniper with NON resistor plugs.

Default Sniper with NON resistor plugs.

Quick question. I run an ICE Ignition and the tech guys told me only to run a NON resistor spark plug with the ignition. So I changed my plugs and now my Sniper is having a few idle problems when cold. It will fire up and the idle jumps up & down and stalls. It also sucks like crazy when the idle speed jumps up. This happens for two sec up & down, etc. I warmed it up and set the IAC with tape over the hole, nothing changes. When startup, set my idle settings when cold to 800 & 750 when hot. Thanks.

Reinstall the resistor spark plugs, which should be used with EFI anyway. Resistor spark plugs or at least resistor plug wire boots.

Taken from ICE website: "Resistor plugs should not be used with ICE Ignition systems. Resistor plugs have approximately 5000 Ohms of resistance built into each plug. This is purely for reducing RFI (Radio Frequency Interference). However, it also reduces the energy available to jump the gap in the chamber and increases the probability of cross-firing. Even when using higher quality spark plugs with exotic materials for center electrodes (which increases the energy available at the gap), if they are of the resistor variety, this will offset any gain made by the superior electrode. This situation becomes more critical when using LPG and in high performance engines, especially engines using alcohol based fuels such as E85, which invariably have higher cylinder pressures."

OK, then accept the cold idle problem. You won't notice less ignition power (unless this was a high powered forced induction engine), but you did notice the engine idle problem. That's why I say reinstall the resistor spark plugs, and enjoy the properly running engine.
