Thread: Sniper EFI idle/strong fuel smell.

    Thanks Nick, something else to add to check out. So it seems the fuel pump runs to prime prior to start, but when the car fires up, it stops running altogether?

    Ensure it isn't losing the RPM signal or the +12V on the pink wire, when it starts.

    Cheers for the advice so far all. So today’s update. Everything was checked as per suggestions.
    The only thing I can’t change yet is the WBO2 sensor, as I live in Dubai, the soonest I can get one delivered is in two weeks, so I’m holding out on this until I can rule out anything else.

    The full system was checked - RPM wire, pink wire, fuel pump wiring, fuel filters and timing.
    Strangely it seems to be running absolutely fine again. Despite nothing really being changed.
    I've had a few misfires here and there which leads me to the next question.

    I read a thread reply on this forum about correct MSD setup with the Sniper. This response was posted by one of the forum members (Chevy C10 - Thanks):
    "I'm currently using a Pro Billet with my Sniper EFI. Unlike the Dual Sync, you will have to adjust the setup to work best. Here are some things to take into consideration, in addition to what Holley says:
    1) Make sure your Reference Angle is 10° more than the max timing the engine will see.
    2) Set your Minimum Signal Voltage to 0.65V and your Filtering to High.
    3) Try using the stock non-adjustable rotor. For some reason the MSD 84211 adjustable rotor can cause issues.
    4) You need to have a CS alternator. A SI alternator was not built to work with EFI.
    5) Make sure no spark plug wires are touching your air cleaner.
    6) Also make sure you have quality plug wires. MSD Super Conductors have the lowest EMI."

    Now my question is about the mentioning of the 10° over max for the Reference Angle to be set. Is this true of ALL MSD ignition setups?
    If so, this could well be something I need to set to ensure correct running, and would appreciate anyone in the know on the MSD systems giving me solid advise on this?
    Interestingly the Holley manual does not mention this when configuring with an MSD setup.
