Thread: 2 BBL or 4 BBL Sniper Decision

Default 2 BBL or 4 BBL Sniper Decision

I have the 4 BBL version in hand. But now the 2300 is out. My AMC 360 has a 2 BBL 2150 on it now. Any ideas on which way I should go. My thought is a 5.9L engine would be well supported by either. Reading the tech info says there is overlap. Is there any advantage to switching to 2 BBL? Thanks for any ideas.

Don't you think we should know your engine's horsepower?

Well that makes it easy: Holley Sniper EFI 2300 2BBL (especially since you already have a 2BBL intake manifold).
The Holley Sniper EFI 2300 2BBL supports up to 325 HP N/A (flows 580 CFM with two 100 lb/hr fuel injectors),
and the Holley Sniper EFI 4BBL supports up to 650 HP N/A (flows 800 CFM with four 100 lb/hr fuel injectors).
May God's grace bless you in the Lord Jesus Christ.

If the engine is already setup with a 2BBL then the Sniper 2300 should bolt right on. The 4 BBL Sniper would require a 4 BBL intake manifold.

Small & medium V8s of the '70s were typically offered in 2 or 4 BBL versions. The 4 BBL versions had a higher compression ratio, better flowing manifold, bigger valves, better cam & dual exhaust. 2 BBL engines had single exhausts, single snorkel air cleaners & less power. Sniper EFI has been installed on engines smaller than 300 CID without problems. But many of those engines were already modified for high performance. I bet the Sniper 2300 will wake up some tired 2 BBL engines.

I saw the 2 barrel version at PRI this past weekend. That thing is super cool.

If you have plans to upgrade/change engine, you should factor that in. Similar situation as you, ‘66 Chevelle 283, 200 HP. Purchased the 4 BBL and will start installing next week, changing to dual-plane manifold, etc. I'll be upgrading the engine over winter, and it makes sense to go that route for me.
