Thread: Tach Connection

    Default Tach Connection

I now have my original tach hooked to the spade on the 6AL. I will need that for the EFI, so I will hook the tach to the brown wire? Is this a square wave signal, or will I need a tach adapter?

Yes, the dark brown wire is the Tach Output: http://documents.holley.com/199r11031r.pdf (Holley Sniper EFI Instruction Manual - "ECU Wiring Overview", Page 16 & "10 Pin Connector", Page 17)

Danny, can you clarify if the brown wire MUST be used regardless of how existing tach is connected? What is the downside to not using the brown wire? Thank you.

No, it's not always used; I think it depends on the ignition application. Look at the ignition wiring diagram on page 18 of the Holley Sniper EFI Instruction Manual.

Do you know if the brown wire emits a square wave signal?

Yes, the Sniper EFI instruction manual states it's used to drive an aftermarket tachometer.

OK. Mine isn't an aftermarket tach, but it does work on a square wave signal.
