Thread: Does the return line to the tank need to be EFI hose?

Default Does the return line to the tank need to be EFI hose?

For the return line from the EFI to the tank, does that need to be high pressure fuel injection hose? Or, can I use just regular fuel line hose?

Yes! It must be the SAE 30R9 rating for continuous & pressurized flow use.

I have another question with the return line. I have an SS Camaro which already has aluminum lines from the engine compartment to the rear of the car. I measured and the return line is only 1/4". Is that too small? If not, do you know if they make a 1/4" NPT to 1/4" hose barb? I plan to use some Vapor-Guard hose (which I'm not sure they even make that small), but I can't find a 1/4" hose barb for my in-tank pump.

I made that mistake once (a long time ago), and it was too small. I had too much return line fuel pressure, causing erratic fuel pressure. However, this was on a 21 psi TBI fuel injection system, but I still would chance it. It's best to do it right.

You think 5/16" would be good or go with 3/8"? 3/8" seems like it would be overkill, but maybe it's better to have too big than too small.

I've always used (-6AN) 3/8" line for the fuel supply & return line. 3/8" EFI hose is also what's supplied in the Sniper EFI Master Kits. Four 100 lb/hr fuel injectors "return" a lot of fuel at idle.
