    Default Remove ECU while welding?

    Question, what precautions are prudent when welding? Any factory vehicle I've welded no problem without disconnecting the battery or ECU, but the few excerpts I can find on the net say with Holley HPs, to remove the ECU from the vehicle. Which normally wouldn't be an issue, however, mine is hidden under the dash and would be a bear to remove. Would disconnecting all the plugs at the ECU suffice? I'm sure many people here have experience with this? Thanks, Bob.

    Disconnect the ECU if welding on the vehicle. The ECU case isn't grounded to the vehicle anyway: http://documents.holley.com/199r10675.pdf (Read Page 2)

    I disconnected mine and it still cleared the tune in it. I sent it back and they said I never loaded a file in it. It was running on the dyno before the transmission left go. We repaired the damage to the floor, and when we tried to restart the car it would not start or communicate. I say remove it.

    I've disconnected my ECU before and it didn't erase the tune. However, there's certainly nothing wrong with removing the ECU before welding.
