Thread: Timing Off

  1. #1

    Default Timing Off

    Just installed new MSD computer controlled distributor, and set idle at 10° and locked it down. It's popping in the exhaust. When I set it to 20° it runs fine. I've checked TDC and the balancer and everything is right. Then I synchronize it all at 30°. The propagation is set at 800 for it to read 30 when revved. I don't understand why it seems retarded at 10°.

    In the Modifiers screen (under Fuel), are all your "Additional Timing vs. Coolant Temperature" values set to -32°? If so, change them all to zero.

    It doesn't say anything about that in Modifiers. I have the 1.2.16 version. It only has Air Temp Enrichment, Coolant Temp Enrichment & Barometric Compensation.

    Check that your software version is compatible with your firmware version:
    1.xx = 1.xx
    2.xx = 2.xx
    3.xx = 3.xx
    Click on the About & Version tab (with the key-on) to find your current software & firmware versions.

    I have the 1.2 version. Don't I have to send the computer to Holley for them to load the Pro software?

    C950 EFI software or C950 ECU firmware? They're two separate things.

    Yes, you mean the ECU firmware needs to be upgraded at Holley.
    The C950 EFI (laptop) software is free download available HERE.

    OK I'm buying the Holley HP in the next month or so. I'll be tossing this system in the garbage.

    To replace a C950 EFI system, purchase an HP EFI ECU & Harness Kit (if you have the engine EFI hardware).

    I can't install anything from the Pro software, unless the firmware is installed by Holley correct?

    That's correct. Your EFI software version must be compatible with your ECU firmware version. The EFI software download available HERE, is the C950 Pro. What version is your ECU firmware?
