Thread: Data Logging Question

  1. #1

    Default Data Logging Question

On several runs with the Commander 950 and Stealth Ram setup, the A/F value line jumps from 14 to off the chart (value of 25.5) and never comes down and starts graphing again. The value can't be correct as the motor pulls strong and the O2 MOD value stays below 100. Any idea as to what might be causing this?

I'd attach the file to this if I new how.

    1) The C950 datalogger is very sensitive to the laptop it's used with. I once helped tune a really nice IROC Camaro and we were going crazy trying to determine why the datalogs had random spikes everywhere (Dell laptop - XP). He previously tried disconnecting the electric fans, better grounding, moving engine wiring away from ignition, removing the alternator belt (safe alternator test), etc. We then tried without the AC car adapter, two different serial-to-USB adapters, turning off background programs, wireless/internet card removed, etc. We finally returned to my house to try my Toshiba laptop - XP and were pleasantly surprised to view super clean datalogs! I would have never thought a laptop computer would be the cause of strange looking datalogs. Then again, I've experienced the most C950 problems when using the owner's Dell laptops.

    2) Maybe the same thing happens with the AFR. The following happens with the laptop NOT connected to ECU ('key off'):
If you open the C950 software and go straight to the datalogger (without loading any Map), the duty cycle will indicate correctly.
If you first load your Map, then open the datalogger, the duty cycle will indicate exactly half the actual amount, throughout the datalog.
(I haven't checked what happens when the laptop is connected to ECU & 'key on'.)

    3) I was in the habit of only opening one window (screen) at a time. Use the 'Hot Keys'. The C950 can do some strange things if you have too many screens open at one time (minimized or not). This may have a lot to do with the particular laptop computer used.
May God's grace bless you in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Figure I'd ask here as opposed to starting a new thread. I have a 950 MPI setup on a 355 SBC, and have the car close as driveability is concerned. But I can not for the life of me get the data log function to work. Car has the Holley WBO2 sensor installed. I'm using a laptop with Windows Vista installed, connected with a USB Keygen serial adapter. Any ideas why this wouldn't be working? Also, I had software but couldn't get it to work, so I downloaded the program from Holley's resource page.
    Thanks, Tom

Which C950 software & firmware versions do you have?
The latest software version is 3.0.7, and firmware is 3.6.
Click on the About & Version tab (key-on) to find your current software & firmware versions.
Your C950 software version must be compatible with your C950 firmware version:
    1.xx software = 1.xx firmware
    2.xx software = 2.xx firmware
    3.xx software = 3.xx firmware

Are you trying to record Internal (ECU) datalogs or PC (laptop) datalogs? Did you read the instructions I linked above?

A PC datalog is what I have been attempting to do. The problem is, the program doesn't do anything when clicking the "Datalogging" tab. Unless I'm doing something incorrectly in terms of sequence. I have read that section of the manual, which is why I asked thinking maybe I misunderstood. Do I need to create a file before I attempt to access the datalog tab?

Its been years since I used the Commander 950 EFI system, so I'm not sure why it's not datalogging.
However, the Datalogger screen should open when clicking on the "Datalogger" tab. Corrupt C950 software?

I'm using a laptop with Windows Vista installed...
Right click on the C950 desktop icon, "Shortcut" tab, and "Advanced". Select "Run As Administrator".

Worked like a dream! I thought I had done this when I installed it. But it seems with Vista, I have to do it each time. Thanks a ton for your time. I owe you a handshake and a beer!
