  • Crank Sensor Issues

I have a Terminator X Max DBW 550-928T. I've done a few Terminators before with great results, but this one is giving me fits. It's a 440 LS Dart SHP Block, Molnar Crank 24x, 1x in the timing cover. The harness in this kit is 558-103. We've changed the crank & cam sensor power to B20, and have tried reversing the A/C pins on the cam sensor. It still won't fire up. It acts like it's just way out of time. Measured crank sensor gap with three different crank sensors and all in the .020"-.040" range. We have changed the ignition trigger parameters to every combination we can think of (LSx 24x, Custom 24x, Single Pulse, Digital Rising & Digital Falling, Coil-On-Plug, Not Used) all with no result. We can get a spark, but again, it's firing out the headers and intake. Depending on the configuration, we get the red LED # 6 on the ECU after 3-4 revolutions cranking. I looked at the 102 vs 103 harnesses and the only thing we have different at the moment is the crank/cam ground is going to A18 vs A14. Would this cause the issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Called Holley tech support. They didn't have any other ideas other than a crank wheel issue. We checked run out and sensor gap when building the engine, but I don't have a fixture to check rotational alignment. I did get a picture through the crank sensor hole at TDC, it's posted. I did hear that Holley has been having ECU issues since COVID, which would correlate to the issues we're seeing in every other aspect of the industry.

Of note we have a fuel pressure sensor (Holley) plugged in that also is reading wonky despite any setting changed (reads 3.7 psi on 60 psi known).

Are any of the other 5V sensors reading incorrectly? Andrew

Everything else seems to read OK. Sensor voltage measure 4.97V at various plugs.

Yep, we've done all that, and everything checks out. We don't have a scope at the dyno, but will have it tomorrow. Run out, air-gap all within spec.

Update time: Got the scope out to the Dyno and triple checked the harness and crank sensor wave form, everything was correct. Sent ECU into Holley and they called back today, entire input side of ECU failed testing. They've been great to work with and are sending a warranty ECU, as soon as they get them back in stock.
