  • New Install Issues - Dominator EFI & TSLCD

This is my first post after installing my new Dominator EFI system. Most of my questions were already answered by lurking about this board for the last couple years. I purchased my system from Dennis Moore at Moore Racecraft last July, and just now got it installed. The installation went as smooth as expected, and the car started without issue.

The first thing I noticed is that the left side O2 reads correctly, but the right side goes from "heating" to "initializing" to "slow". The right side O2 sensor seems DOA, as I can hook the other sensor to the right channel, and the right channel will then read as it should. What is the recourse with a DOA sensor that is obviously brand new, although the purchase date is July of last year? (I'm going to call Dennis Moore about the sensor tomorrow.)

Anyway, the second issue is with the touchscreen not displaying gauge info. It worked perfectly for a couple days, now the data monitor works, but gauges don't have needles (can't tap gauges to configure them, and no switch panel screen). I saw the thread with a similar issue and Danny sent a document and new gauge installer or something. Danny, if you would, can you send me info on how to get the gauges back online?

I spent a ton of money on this system and I must say I'm feeling a little apprehensive about my initial experience. Hopefully Danny will chime in with the fix for the gauges. Thanks in advance guys, and sorry for long post.

The WBO2 sensor is most likely defective, however, ensure you're using the latest
EFI software & ECU firmware (Link); it has "Oxygen Sensor Control Updates" (Link - HEFI_1589.eep).

Thank you Danny for being so fast with your response. I will check it out after work.

Also, if you would be so kind, could you please send me either mail or phone contact info for someone at Holley, to plead my case to about the defective WBO2 sensor? The dealer that I purchased everything from has sadly left me on my own. All I can say is WOW...I truly hope Holley can come through. Thanks again!

UPDATE: Low battery voltage caused the WBO2 sensors to malfunction (Link).

Danny, you are the man! Thank you so much for your prompt responses. The fix you sent for the touchscreen did the trick. The WBO2 sensor however, is a different story. Now, both sensors read "slow!" after a long time "heating". I can switch them around with no change in the readings. Travis at Holley seemed very understanding and told me even though the sensor is out of warranty, that they would test it and work with me if found defective. But now, it seems neither channel is recognizing any sensor at all. This all seemed to start after I upgraded to the new firmware last night, in the attempt to fix the touchscreen. After installing the firmware, I unplugged both WBO2s until I verified that my saved tune still had the correct WBO2 type and quantity selected. So now, the second WBO2 is reading a fault code without even starting the engine. Could the ECU be at fault? Should I reinstall firmware again? I had version 0545.eep and updated to 0587.eep. Thanks again Danny

Well, I switched back to 0545 firmware and both sensors function correctly. The gauges on the touchscreen also work, even though the ECU is running on the original firmware. Go figure. Thanks for the help Danny.

At this point, I'd continue to work with Holley Tech on this. You may have had corrupted ECU firmware.

I may try saving my tune, uninstalling software, do a fresh install of newest software, install firmware update directly from the new software, and see how the WBO2s work then. It has me perplexed at this point. If it repeats the problem I definitely will get back with Holley. Thanks Danny.

Just curious, are these Bosch or NTK WBO2 sensors, and are they the older 5-wire sensors or the newer 7-wire sensors?

Well, I found the definitive answer to the situation...battery voltage, LOL. At 11.8 volts and greater, both sensors light off quick and display A/F numbers quickly. At 11.7 volts, the left sensor comes on before the right, and only after a long wait. When it hits 11.6 volts, the right one gives the alarm "Slow!", with the red dot in the Data Monitor. Any voltage below that, and both sensors give the slow alarm. I found this out last night after messing with it, and both sensors looking DOA. I charged the battery because it was getting low, then both sensors worked fine.

I thought it was firmware related because the sensors worked after I went back to the old, but I had charged the battery before flashing, so it just seemed like the firmware was the issue. If I let voltage fall to the levels discussed above, I can duplicate the WBO2 issue at will. I didn't know the WBO2s would give that alarm due to slightly low voltage, so just something to remember to check even though voltage is assumed to be sufficient. Just passing my findings along so maybe the info may help someone in the future. Thanks again Danny.
