  • Commander 950, no RPM signal.

I have a Holley Commander 950 and it works OK with an inductive crankshaft pickup unit, but does not work with my Pertronix coil distributor setup. I did change the hardware update window to reflect the type of RPM source I was using (coil), but no go. Is there some sort of resistor required to get the Commander 950 to see the coil voltage spikes as an RPM signal? Is the Holley Commander coil input function (circuit?) susceptible to damage if not grounded properly?

Is anyone out there still using the Commander 950? Mine was sitting in a drawer in the garage for 12 years, I could not get it to run back then. I finally put it back in a car yesterday and got it running by NOT using the coil wire, using the coil wire for RPM gave me 0 RPM in the control panel while cranking. No start. So I switched to an IPU, inductive crankshaft pickup, now the ECU works, I get an RPM reading at crank and it starts right up.

But it's only one day so far on this IPU crank sensor system, we'll see how long it lasts. So is the coil RPM input to the Commander problematic? I measured it at 200 volts once.

Has anyone had success using the coil input to the ECU successfully? I think the 200V coil spikes burned out that circuit in the ECU. I have two Commander ECUs and they both exhibit NO RPM with the coil now. What has anyone else noticed? IPU RPM input works, coil RPM input is a joke.

Hello Fellow Holley users. Do you still use the Commander 950? What do you use for an RPM signal? Did the coil input ever work on your 950? Thanks.

No, it's an antiquated EFI system.
May God's grace bless you in the Lord Jesus Christ.
